Move over Mr. Darcy — the Duke of Kielder has arrived
If you have followed my page for very long, you know I am a die-hard romantic. And while my personal preference is more steamy in nature, I recently discovered a gem of a story that is wonderfully wholesome.
After watching the movie, Seeking Persephone, more times than I care to admit (at least once a week), I discovered it was based on a book… so of course I had to get it. As I already said, my personal preference leans toward steamy, this wholesome story drew me in from the start thanks to fantastic characters. I fell in love with Adam in the movie first, but with only a few minor deviations, the book and film complement each other beautifully, which I was happy to discover.
The story itself is simple yet very complex and layered: an unlikely marriage of convenience between an emotionally scarred, closed‑off man and a kind‑hearted, gentle, patient woman who slowly navigate their way through seemingly insurmountable odds to reach their HEA. It's a romance lovers dream story. I'd quote you some of my favorite lines - I have several - but I don't want to spoil the fun of you discovering them for yourself. ;-)
If you love character‑driven, emotionally rich romance, read this one. I admit I may have swooned a time or two, maybe even rolled my eyes once or twice, but when I reached "the end", I smiled, closed my eyes -- then re-read some of my favorite scenes, especially the end.
And by all means, watch the movie too! It’s streaming in several places. Obviously, the generous subtext is present in the book, but seeing those moments come alive through Jake Stormoen’s performance as Adam makes my writer’s heart go pitty‑pat.
Highly recommend for anyone who loves a good romance
